Le costume et le caractère des personnages dans “Eugénie Grandet” de Balzac: Etude sémiotique
Abstract
Our research deals with this relationship between the natures and morals of the characters with the characters of the novel "Engnie Grandet" by the novelist Balzac, one of the pillars of the French novel of the nineteenth century. So, the research is an answer to the question that is frequently asked by the reader, is there a relationship between clothes or fashion and the character of the novel? This novel is considered a masterpiece of fashion in that era in terms of the multiplicity of types of clothes and fashions, "the clothes of the people of Baysi / the clothes of the people of the villages and the countryside" from our point of view. The research also provides tables describing men's and women's clothes in this novel, so that the reader becomes familiar with the nature and morals of the characters of both sexes. Therefore, our analysis came as a result of an intensive semiotic study of what was mentioned in this novel.
