Abstract

It is a widely known assumption that the task of translation between culturally unrelated languages becomes more difficult than between those which share a historical and a cultural background. Metaphors as a cultural phenomenon pose a great deal of challenge in the translator's attempt to recreate the metaphorical image in the TL; this is due to the indirectness of the meaning of metaphors which makes "untranslatability" a likelihood .
